Fascial Distortion Model (FDM)
The FDM says that most musculoskeletal injuries are caused by six distinct types of fascial distortions.
Dr. Typaldos wrote an article explaining the significance of the FDM, and describing the six distortion types in detail.*![]()

Typaldos Manual Therapy (TMT)
The term Fascial Distortion Model refers to the anatomical model through which we envision most musculoskeletal injuries and chronic pain.
Typaldos Manual Therapy is the treatment method Dr. Stephen Typaldos, D.O., developed to correct fascial distortions. In the past, he called these techniques Orthopathy, which combined the "ortho-" in orthopaedics with the "-pathy" in osteopathy.
Orthopathy made the title of each of the first three versions of Dr. Typaldos's textbook. Later, he set the name aside, but never replaced it. Consequently, the techniques themselves came to be known as FDM, although this is technically incorrect.
For convenience, and also to honor Dr. Typaldos, we are calling the techniques Typaldos Manual Therapy (acronym TMT).
Competent practitioners could develop any number of techniques, having the FDM as their guide. They may call those techniques by any name they choose. However, we ask that those who use the treatments Dr. Typaldos developed himself, pay him due respect by calling them Typaldos Manual Therapy (TMT).
